I've got a topic that we'll tie briefly to the previous post. For the amount of money they charge, student services at GW are entirely lacking. This could have to do with the lack of endowment or the overall culture of poor service present in the entire DC area. It could be any number of things. My basic point is that I and my friends have all noticed that our varying undergrad institutions did a much better job taking care of their students. I now realize how good the services were at Davis, even the ones we had proclaimed useless. GW has provided me with the definition of useless, and every time I set foot on campus I become happier and happier that I didn't waste my money coming here for undergrad as originally planned.
Now, how does this tie into the previous post? Something related to my health has developed over the past several weeks that has me increasingly concerned. I talked to Aunt Mary and got her opinion on the matter, and we agreed that she'd take a look when I'm home next week. However, given her assessment, I thought it might be worth making an appointment with Student Health. At Davis, we would talk to an advice nurse to go over what was wrong, and whether or not we actually needed an appointment. This led to a lot of complaining at the time, but I've come to appreciate its value. Here, when I asked if there were anyone I could talk to before scheduling, and was rudely informed that I was already speaking with a doctor, after explaining the problem, I was just as rudely informed that my best bet was to go to my dentist. I was sick of dealing with this woman, so I hung up rather than trying to get any further, but seriously let's try a little compassion and customer service...
