Last night I took a brief break from paper writing to watch the Animal Planet documentary on Butterstick, "A Panda is Born." The one moment that made this entirely worthwhile (well aside from all of the squealing about how cute he is) was the actual footage of the live birth. This was no human labor, long and laborious. No, the mom kind of got agitated for a while, and then while she was laying on her side, Butterstick came flying out like he was launched from a cannon, hit the wall full force, and fell to the ground. It was just too cartoonish to believe. We then got to see a collapsed look at his growth and development over the next 100 days, because they were mean enough to stop at the official naming ceremony. Tai Shan's honestly not a bad name, but he'll always be Butterstick to me.
