Today we discuss monkeys, but not my time with them, merely a meaningless point I'd like to bring up. This is the kind with which I volunteer:

The Golden Lion Tamarins and their babies are pretty freakin' adorable. They're also energetic little things. However, I personally think that the Golden Headed Lion Tamarins are cuter:

Their adorable monkeyness is highlighted by having the light face against the dark body. More texture maybe? My actual point in bringing this up though is the marmocet. Now, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the little buggers, but much like humans they're an invasive species. Right now tamarin populations have been reintroduced to the full capacity of available habitat. Aside from the major problem of human destruction of coastal rain forest, one of the limiting factors has been that common marmocets have crept in, limiting the space available to our lovable flagship monkeys. I don't want to dislike these little creatures, because they're fighting for survival as well, but it's hard when they look shifty and evil:

While it's true that he does almost look like a Disney character, he also looks like he could play a henchman for some sort of animal jungle mob. A tiny, furry little thug. This is actually one of the reasons why Tamarin rescue has been so successful though. They're just plain cute, people love them. Could Brazilians rally around a non-descript gray fluffball that looks like it could knife you without a second thought? Probably not. So in this case, conservation is fueled by mushiness, because this little guy is just that much more compelling:
