I'm not all that attached to Valentine's Day as a holiday. Having routinely been in long distance relationships, it's served primarily as an excuse to mandate visits and just be couply for a weekend. I don't ask for nice dinners or gifts. I haven't even been terribly upset for those years when I've been single (actually there's only been one of those since I left home, so I'll count myself lucky). It just doesn't matter that much. However, the one thing that made me feel it this year was Friendster. That's right, I can handle the Hallmark ads, and constant suggestions for date spots etc, but Friendster turning pink has started to bug me. I don't anticipate having either a fantastic or terrible V-day weekend, and I'll be in class on the day of, but I'm send a great big "F-you" to Friendster for feeling the need to push this commercial holiday on its members.
