I have recently developed a certain degree of curiosity regarding Chavez Ravine, and am contemplating a series of posts on locations and events from SoCal that somehow hold meaning to me. The most objective account I've been able to find is from PBS. Though this individual puts more emphasis on the impact of the Dodgers. It's funny to me that I would feel a sense of loss for a community to which I hold no ties, and that disappeared 20 years before I was born. I guess I feel a little cheated that we don't get to hear more about the history of such a large and interesting city. Beyond the fact that it was founded as a ranch, and the population blew up after the war, very little is taught about how Los Angeles came to be.
