A certain friend of mine has reached a limbo stage in our relationship where I'm not sure whether we're close, or if I just don't like them as a person. The question is how to make this sort of decision, and how to go about politely minimizing the time spent together should that be necessary. We're still going to see each other around, so I'd hate to create an awkward situation, but what do you do when a friend turns out to be nothing like the person you though they were? Do I take the self-centered, superficial, immature behavior as final, or do I consider it a slip of character? I'd hate to be rude or mean, or to hurt anyone, but if this person is not the friend I thought they were, then what's the point in going out of my way to see them?
