Love, when it's real, does not have to be requited - Though it's a lot more satisfying when it is returned. No matter, for 19 years I have been in love with GW and especially its students. That makes me sound promiscuous, I suppose, but it's possible to be promiscuous and faithful at the same time. We haven't been just hooking up - we've been going steady, you and I and all the students who came before you. I'm going to miss you as I miss every graduating class, but you more than any other. This is, as you know, my graduation, too.The whole of the two page cliche that was Trachtenberg's farewell message had those of us sitting through Sunday's graduation ceremony a little quizzical, but he couldn't seem to top that opening paragraph.

I thought I would share this blurb from President Trachtenberg's farewell message as well as a mini-angry rant on the topic. How does this make it through editing and get published?:
