So the word "Iraq" was mentioned 97 times in the 90 minutes of last night's debate. That's more than once every minute of the debate. I think my favorite part though was when Kerry brought up the fact that the US, Great Britain, and Australia didn't really equal a "Grand Alliance." Bush's response was literally: "You forgot Poland." throughout the debate I got the impression that Bush just wanted to go home, and that he couldn't understand why people were picking on him. It seriously frightens me that this man might be re-elected.

I think that the other part of this that is so terrifying is that people like my dad, Eliza's dad, and Lara's mom are going to look at the debate and see that confused, inarticulate, misguided man as some sort of hero. They're going to confuse narrow-mindedness with consistency and arrogance with power. I feel like I'm watching people set fire to their own home in order to kill termites.

Once again, I'm intrigued by how something can be both scary an hilarious at the same time. There were five of us here watching this debate, and we were all cracking up at the time. I think the terror came when the implications of what we had just seen finally set in.
