And thus closes my time with Bryce. I'll probably see him one more time before he leaves for Iraq, but I think this weekend was a fitting goodbye. Tiring, but fitting.
Friday was the Mason Jennings concert. To me, it was magical. To Bryce, it was miserable. It was cool for me to see so many people that into the music, because the last time I saw him play was at a bar in Sacramento in front of about 50 people. Of course, there really aren't a whole lot of venues in this city, so I'm thinking that people will go to whatever show is going on. My voice was pretty disgusting by the end of the night between the pre-existing scratchy voice, the smoke, and the singing along. Oh well, I love me some Mason and had a great time.
Saturday got to be pretty interesting. I guess that most of that actually happened on Sunday though. Spring Fling was less prom-ish than Gentry had thought, but more like a dressed up, extremely drunken TNO. We managed to find Bryce some decent clothes, so the photos won't be as funny as predicted, but we did get some cheesy poses. The DJ was pretty terrible, but what was entertaining was that when he saw "graduate school" he interpreted it as "graduation party", and kept congratulating us. It was a good time, and I was pleased to see how well Bryce fit in. It was nice that I could make a few introductions and then let him go. No babysitting required.
After the dance and the after-party we finally made our way back to Catherine's place. When the cab dropped us off around 3:30, my car was where we had left it. When we tried to leave around 4:00, that was not the case. Oddly, Bryce even heard the tow truck as we were sitting in Catherine's living room, but didn't think it could be us. Luckily, there were couches available. I think that Catherine was more upset by the towing than I was. What I thought was funny was that when I asked Lara to drive us to the impound yard on Sunday, she knew where it was and how much it would cost. She'd had a bit of experience with being towed in Arlington.
This weekend was a complete loss for getting anything done, so I'm going to have to be productive this week. Time to pay for the fun.
