The 2007 concert season kicks off soon with back to back Snow Patrol shows. There are two more shows I'd like to see coming up, one of them largely due to a cover I heard. That's right, a cover. I fell for the band when I heard them play an obscure song by a more obscure artist. Well, that also depends on your definition of obscure. I've certainly met plenty of people who love Mason Jennings, but under no circumstances would I class him as well known. And California isn't generally the first song of his that gets mentioned. However, the Kooks covered it, and that led me to investigate. Now they're coming to the 9:30 Club, and I might find myself compelled to go see them.

The question though, actually comes back to Mason Jennings. If I'm planning on seeing a band that I learned of through their cover of one of his songs, should I also plan on seeing him in Charlottesville? That would be a two hour drive on a Sunday night, and I'd likely get home around 1:00 in the morning providing that I don't get lost in BFE Virginia as has happened on several occasions. I'm pretty much fifty fifty on this, likely opting out due to the other festivities in the coming weeks. I'm just left wondering if the Kooks show will make up for missing the Mason show, or just make me wish that much more that I'd gone.
