There are things that can serve to lower my opinion of a person that will occasionally make me feel a bit guilty. Most recently, it has been an email address. Sometimes it's a pet's name or a vanity plate. These things serve to speak volumes about a person while actually telling me nothing about what they're like. The problem is two-fold however. As with biases against typically black or white trash names, one has to address the prejudices that affect these people who had no control over their parents' poor choices. However, parents also need to consider the potentially harmful effects of naming a child Shaniqua or Sierra. In the case of something like an email address, I'm going to assume that the one I was given hasn't been used for professional purposes, but that doesn't mean that I don't respect the person a little less. I just have to keep telling myself that people choose these things when they're too young to know any better. That's certainly how I ended up with something fairly lame.
