Does it strike anyone else that we may be over reacting to the weather?
Naturally, when I looked at the forecast for this week, I was astonished to see triple digit temps in our future. I could understand a heat advisory. I get that people not accustomed to warmth might need some instructions on avoiding sunstroke etc. However, what I don't understand is the extensive coverage of the heat wave. I'm sorry but "temperatures in the 90's" don't really strike me as a natural disaster in the middle of July. In January possibly, but not July. I have seen more coverage of this than of the TSUNAMI that hit Indonesia this morning. That's right, I've heard more about the single digit people the heat wave might kill than about the dozens that wave has already killed. Can't you people just man up and deal with the fact that it's summer?
To put everything in perspective, I was speaking with Bryce over my lunch, and mentioned that it was supposed to hit 103 today, but it certainly didn't feel that hot. His response was that Baghdad had gotten down to 106. When that's what we're praying for in the US, then I'll worry about the heat wave. Additionally, there's the fact that DC has not yet approached a Davis style summer, especially considering that the humidity seems to be down a bit. For now I'll just drink more water and stay in the shade. This is otherwise known as common sense.
